Cambridgeshire Hindu Organisations Unite to Launch the Cambridge Hindu Temple & Community Centre Project
Hindu Samaj Northstowe, together with the newly formed Cambridge Hindu Temple & Community Centre Working Group, today announces a unified countywide initiative to establish the first Hindu place of worship and cultural centre in Cambridgeshire. Representatives from Hindu organisations across the region gathered in Northstowe to present the shared vision and outline the next steps in preparing a bid for the Section 106 Faith & Community land.

For many years, the Hindu community in Cambridgeshire has been without a dedicated space for spiritual practice, cultural learning or community wellbeing. This absence has affected a whole generation, who have grown up without a place to connect with their heritage, participate in traditional practices, or experience the cultural grounding that a temple naturally provides. The proposed centre aims to address this long-standing gap and offer a welcoming resource that supports identity, wellbeing, community connection and cultural continuity.
Space for community gatherings, learning and cross-cultural events
Seva through charitable practices
While rooted in Hindu spiritual tradition, the centre is designed to serve all residents of Cambridgeshire, offering programmes that promote wellbeing, cultural understanding and social cohesion. The Working Group emphasised that this project reflects the community's longstanding commitment to openness, inclusion and service to the wider public.

This announcement marks the first time that Hindu organisations across Cambridgeshire have come together in a formal partnership. The Working Group includes representatives from multiple local Hindu associations, bringing together diverse voices, experiences and areas of expertise. This unity demonstrates both community readiness and a shared commitment to building a lasting asset for current and future generations.
This project is supported not only by Hindu organisations, but also by Jain and Buddhist communities across Cambridgeshire. As Dharmic traditions with shared roots of peace, learning and service, we stand together in recognising the urgent need for a space where our heritage can be preserved and celebrated.
The Working Group is now preparing a formal submission for the Section 106 Faith & Community land in Northstowe. This is the first meaningful opportunity in seven years to secure a location suitable for a Hindu place of worship and community centre. This land allocation represents a rare chance to address a significant gap in community provision and support the wellbeing, identity and cohesion of a rapidly growing local population.
The group has undertaken extensive community engagement, gathered expressions of support from not just Hindu organisations but various faith groups and well-wishers across the county, and is coordinating efforts to ensure a clear, evidence-based and community-led proposal. Further public consultation and engagement will continue in the coming weeks.
The Working Group is a countywide partnership of Hindu organisations collaborating to develop a shared vision for a Hindu temple and community centre in Cambridgeshire. The partnership brings together cultural, spiritual, educational and wellbeing interests from across the region.
